District Court Judge Stefany Miley sentenced a former cop with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to 25 life sentences for sexually abusing a girl beginning when she was was only eight years old.

The ex-Metro cop, Bret Theil, 39, was found guilty of 28 counts of charges including sexual assault, lewdness with a child, child abuse and kidnapping. He used police handcuffs to secure the girl to a bed as he forced her to perform sex acts. He sexually abused the girl, now in her 20s, over an 11-year period, when she was aged 8 to 19 in Nevada.

Theil’s defense attorney, Craig Mueller, told Judge Miley that the charges against his client were lies. Mueller said that Theil was an innocent man.

‘She’s lying,’ Mueller said. ‘She has been lying. These accusations did not happen at any time. Any man can be accused by a woman and if the jury believes then he loses his life,’ Mueller said.

The victim said she has a life sentence of the memory of all those years of sexual abuse to live with. She said, “I was turned into a human pet.” And, “I have to live with it for the rest of my life. I can’t count the nights I spent sobbing, scratching at my skin.”

Judge Miley didn’t buy into Mueller’s argument, nor did she find any reason for leniency with regard to the jury’s guilty verdict on all counts. Miley sentenced Theil to life in prison on 28 counts of sexual assault, kidnapping and child abuse.

Theil is eligible for parole in 2412.
